In the early 1900’s social media was present albeit in a totally different form than today. To have one associated with different organizations and photos and newsworthy accomplishments one could become very well known. One could thereby benefit financially or politically, with this “social media” of the times. Ordinary folks could capitalize on the fact the public recognized you and followed what you did. Alfred J. Johnston of Sacramento was one of those folks. Born locally in 1857 he was educated in Sacramento Schools. Johnson went on to become a well known local and became a highly regarded Manager of the State Printing Office. He was an Earned prentice Mason, fellow craft Mason, sublime degree master mason. Also with The Royal Arch Masons he was marked Master and was past master in the Oriental Chair, Most excellent Master, and then Royal Arch Mason.
He received the degrees of Royal and Select Masters October 28, 1895 in Sacramento Council No1 R. & S.M. Sacramento. Our present seal bears the origination founder date as August 15, 1895 and a few months later granted Johnson his R.S. & M. status. No doubt he was aware or even had the opportunity to emboss with this seal.
